VIP can seeHi, I am a Singaporean-Chinese and have been working in my country for the past 20 years (between 1995 and 2015). Since then, I have accumulated considerable experience and skills in many areas (For example: business development/management; community engagement; customer relationship management; event management; marketing; operations management; partnership management; project management; public relations; stakeholder relations management, training and development, etc). In particular, I spent about 9 years at 3 different training and development divisions/branches in the Singapore civil service) and I am confident that such experience would be useful/required for a teaching/training position. In addition, I am a trained On-the-Job (OJT) training instructor, career counsellor, negotiator, and senior counsellor.
I am honoured to have been awarded the Chinese Government Full Scholarship by the China Scholarship Council to further my education in 2010. Since my postgraduate studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), I developed strong interests in the following: China-ASEAN Affairs; China Studies (Political and Socio-Economic Developments); Comparative Politics of Asia; Contemporary Chinese History, and International Relations. With this in mind, I pursued a doctoral degree in political theory at the faculty of International Relations, Research School of Southeast Asian Studies, at Universitas Amoiensis, also known as Xiamen University, China, 2010-13.
During my stay in the Greater China region (between 2009 and 2013), I have attended several international academic conferences and seminars across different autonomous regions, municipalities and provinces. Thus far, I have made great efforts in contributing to edited volumes and published academic journals in both English and Chinese languages and was a teaching assistant at Universitas Amoiensis (Xiamen University) and Paramadina University (Indonesia) for 2 years. Furthermore, I am fluent in English (IELTS, Academic: Band 7) and Chinese (New HSK: Level 5 and Business Mandarin Conversational, Advanced: Level 4) and have basic oral knowledge of Bahasa Melayu, Cantonese, and Hokkien.
International experience is a big part of programmes that I have participated in. I represented youth organisations and groups on several occasions such as the National Youth Council (Singapore) and NTU for the ‘ASEAN Young Leaders’ Training Programme’ and ‘China-ASEAN Expo’, in China (2009). In addition to the appointment as the ‘China-ASEAN Youth Exchange Ambassador’ for Singapore since 2012, the overseas stints have provided me with platforms to engage in discussions with overseas delegates. These exposure opportunities together with other programmes, have not only widened my world view, but also helped me improve my communication, critical thinking, leadership and team-building skills.
I am looking to continue my career with an organisation that will utilise my past experiences and skills to benefit mutual growth and success long term. I strongly believe that my qualifications as well as my exposure adequately prepared me for a teaching position in the following subjects: English, Social Studies/Social Science or a senior managerial position. I look forward to hearing from you soon, thank you.
